Prince Philippe is the first in line to Belgium's throne and he married Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz in Brussels on 4 December 1999, it is unusual for such a major royal wedding to take place during Europe's cold months. Since their wedding the couple have had four children, with Princess Elisabeth the eldest and next in line to the throne behind her father. When Prince Philippe assumes the throne, Princess Mathilde will become the first Belgian-born queen consort of Belgium.
