The marriage of Prince David of Georgia and Anna Gruzinski was the first royal wedding to take place on Georgian soil for nearly 200 years. Prince David was born in Spain, after his ancestors fled Georgia following the 1917 Russian revolution and his marriage united two Georgian clans. The wedding took place on 9 February 2009 and was attended by 3,000 in Georgia's capital Tbilisi. Unfortunately although the wedding may have been ideal for uniting factions within Georgia, it was not good for the two people involved. In April 2009 Georgia press reported that the couple were close to divorce, this was confirmed in August 2009 when it was reported that the couple had actually separated within one month of their marriage.
