Where can Indian women go to seek help for domestic abuse?

Help is available in many forms. All you have to do is reach out and speak up.

We have a protection of women from domestic violence act (PWDVA) in place.

Police stations are equipped to handle complaints for domestic abuse.

Many women's organisations and NGOs are available with shelter, counselling and medical help. Some support groups also offer help in reconciliation or decent separation so that the woman may get custody of the children and maintenance.

Would it help if these women speak to an immediate circle of well wishers?

There would be nothing better! These women need to be heard and its best if someone known to them can counsel them and guide them. This someone can be a friend, a relative or a neighbour, basically anyone who cares about these women. They can end up acting as support systems to help them deal with this emotionally and mentally.
