R. Madhavan has been named person of the year by animal rights organisation People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for his contribution in spreading vegetarianism.
The 42-year-old is being honoured for devoting time to various initiatives of the organisation, which opposes cruelty on animals.
The actor had recently sent a letter to the CEO of food chain KFC's parent company, Yum! Brands, urging the head-honcho to adopt PETA's recommendations to stop animal abuse.
The actor had also lent his voice to a PETA video, which was based on Paul McCartney's statement that if slaughterhouses were made up of glass walls, no one would eat non-vegetarian food.
