With the eyes of the world always upon her, Queen Elizabeth understands the importance of being impeccably turned out.

Rarely seen without a (low) heel on her feet and a classic clip-frame bag in the crook of her arm (she favours Launer), over the years she has worked every look going: fitted Forties jackets, heritage, tea dresses, skirt suits, checks, capes, turbans, country casual, even jauntily-angled hats – you name it, Her Majesty has worn it.

Of course, behind every well-dressed famous woman there is usually someone giving a helping fashion hand, and The Queen is no exception. HM was served by two key courtiers in the past, Norman Hartnell, who created both her coronation and wedding gowns, and Hardy Amies, who mainly looked after her daytime outfits.

Helping hand or no, The Queen is undoubtedly a style icon – take a look at her best fashion moments in the gallery above.
