Bollywood actors Kangana Ranaut, Lisa Haydon, Neha Dhupia, Farhan Akhtar's wife Adhuna and Rakul Preet Singh turned showstoppers for India's top designers on Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week 2014.
Designers Aartivijay Gupta, Khem, Ilk by Shikha & Vinita, Verb, Mandira Bedi, Jade by Monica & Karishma, Suman Nathwani, Asmita Marwa, Abdul Halder, Sailex, Payal Singhal, Veda Raheja, Sourabh Kant Shrivastava, Love From India, Dorothy Perkins, Karleo, Urvashi Joneja and Gaurav Gupta among others showcased their exquisite Summer/Resort collection at the fashion show.
Actress Kangna Ranaut was the showstopper for Jabong, a popular multi-brand e-store, at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014.
Kangana - with open hair and minimal make up - donned a silver sequin gown with subtle detailing.
With over a thousand international high street brands, the e-store launched the "must have" women's wear collection by British brand Dorothy Perkins.
The garments included printed dresses, lacy tops, denim leggings, textured jackets, printed comfy pants, soft cropped jackets, rompers and shimmering cocktail creations.
Designer duo Monica & Karishma showcased their collection themed ‘New age women’ and keeping in tune with their theme, they roped in model-turned-actress Lisa Haydon as their show stopper and she impressed with her glamour quotient.
Donning a long sleeveless dress with golden work and peach coloured cut work across the dress, Lisa looked as glamorous as ever while walking the ramp.
"It feels amazing to walk the ramp and I am honoured to be their showstopper," said the actress who plays a prominent role in Kangana Ranaut starrer 'Queen'.
Talking about the collection Monica said: "All our garments are free-flowing and represent today's women. Our collection has a vibe of 1960s with the glamour of the roaring 1920s. There is a subtle nonchalance in combining the best of the two decades in fashion."
Long skirts and dresses with glitter and embellishment inspired by the 1920s defined the silhouettes and the duo played well with pastel shades such as blush and dreamy grey accented by a dash of vivid pink.
Actress-designer Mandira Bedi made her Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 debut on Thursday and showcased a sari collection titled "Real Women".
Women achievers from all walks of life including doctors, nutritionists and lawyers sashayed down the ramp today for Bedi.
She also surprised the audience when she presented her mother Geeta Bedi as her showstopper. Dressed in a blue sari with golden border, Geeta looked elegant when she hit the ramp.
When asked to say a few words, Mandira's mother said: "I am not much of a speaker, all I want to say is that I am proud to be her showstopper."
The runway was flush with Mandira's summer saris in shades like blue, pink and green among others with golden border. There were a few printed saris too. Her collection was high on effects and low on embellishments.
The actor-model chose fabrics like georgette, satins, net and cotton silks with a perfect blend of vibrant hues.
"I am feeling extremely emotional. The concept of my show is real women. This is my first show, my mother is my showstopper and it's a very emotional moment for me," Mandira, last seen in hit TV show '24', told reporters post the show.
"Not just my mother, even the other ladies, who walked for me, I am grateful to them because they came here just for me," added the actress who invited successful women from various walks of life to walk the ramp, including a lawyer, nutritionist and fitness trainer among others.
Mandira ventured into fashion designing last year and even opened a signature store in Mumbai.
Celebrity hairstylist and wife of actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, Adhuna made her first-ever ramp appearance Thursday at designer Asmita Marwa's show.
She hit the ramp in a Salmon pink net palazzo with pin detailing and crop shirt with no jewellery whatsoever. Her hair was tied to give that neat look. Her stylish ear cuff added the wow factor to her appearance.
"This is the first time that I am walking the ramp. I think it's too scary, but it's great that it got over fast. I have always admired Asmita's clothes and I find her clothes very earthy and comfortable," Adhuna told reporters.
The collection was a blend of summer pants, shimmer palazzo, kimono tops, off-white khadi kimono cropped top long kurta shirt, balloon skirts with shimmer, sequins dress. Men's wear had samurai pants worn with dyed shirts and short sleeved kurtas teamed with black denims.
Talking about her collection, Marwa said: "My collection is spring summer line so I have used natural fabrics like chanderi silk, which is perfect for the summer. I have emphasized a lot on the cuts and used summer colour palettes."
