Indian beauty queens who did us proud on international platforms
We've had a long-standing relationship with international beauty pageants. From Aishwarya Rai to the more recent Navneet Kaur Dhillon, India has always sent out the best of faces for the prestigious titles.
Although we had started winning hearts as early as 1966 (Reita Faria won us our first ever Miss World title), it was only in 1994 that we struck gold. That glorious year, we found a Miss Universe in Sushmita Sen and a Miss World in the most beautiful Aishwarya Rai.
After Diana Hayden (Miss World 1997) and Yukta Mookhey (Miss World 1999), we hit jackpot with Priyanka Chopra winning the much-coveted Miss World title in 2000 and Lara Dutta being crowned Miss Universe the same year.
In recent years, Aditi Gowitrikar, Manasvi Mamgai, Himangini Singh Yadu and Nicole Faria brought laurels to the nation.
Here is a lineup of beauty pageant winners from India.
