In 1661, Louis XIV hired the world's best landscape gardeners to create what would become the Gardens of Versailles. Centuries later, the 250 acre gardens are still watered with the same hydraulic system which was used in the garden's early days and the garden has been given UNESCO World Heritage status. Each year, 50,000 flowers are planted in the gardens each year, which means those with hay fever should probably steer clear.
