Pacu Jawi - Indonesia
11/10/2014 (exact date to be confirmed)
In October, the Western Sumatran region of Indonesia plays host to Pacu Jawi or traditional cow races. Held by the Minangkabau people in the muddy rice fields of Batusangkar, the races are part of celebrations to signify the end of the harvest season. The competition involves jockeys grabbing hold of tails of the bulls and skating across the mud barefoot or balancing on a wooden plank to show the strength of the bulls, who are later auctioned to buyers.
