This week, the unthinkable happened - Jennifer Aniston came second (yes, SECOND) in a poll about hair.

Jen was beaten to the top spot in a survey on the most influential on-screen hairstyles by Anne Hathaway as Fantine in Les Misérables. To be fair, Anne did resort to pretty extreme measures for her movie mane (as in she cut it all off), so it's only deserving of the top spot.

The poll of 1,000 people by the Hairdressing Council of Britain and Universal Studios also saw Audrey Hepburn, Veronica Lake and Molly Ringwald all make the top five.

Celebrity hairdresser Charles Worthington said of the list: "Film can inspire people to do many things and in particular change the way they look.

"The versatility of Jennifer Aniston’s cut ensures it appeals to so many people while there really is nothing like an up do for that Hollywood glamour as sported by Hepburn."

Amen on that, Charles.

The list got us thinking about the most lustworthy locks we've ever seen on the silver screen, and so in the gallery above we chart the top five movie hairstyles that feature on the poll's list, plus 14 of our own personal favourites. Prepare yourself for a serious case of hair envy...
