How to look 5 Years Younger

By Meenakshi Shankar

Everyone's jumped on this 'want to look younger' bandwagon. And the end result is usually experimenting with age defying creams. Well, the creams do, at some level have an effect, but what you need is not an exotic and expensive array of creams, but simple foundation and powder to do the trick. One of the biggest drawbacks to aging is that you lose pigment and color in your skin as you age, making you look pale and washed out. That is why making your skin appear lighter than its natural tone makes you look older. A perfect way to add color to your face is by "sculpting the face"—blending multiple shades of foundation and powder in specific areas. The beauty of this technique is that it adds depth to the skin and shape to the face but looks completely natural. Adding dimension and color to your face will definitely give you that youthful glow you have been looking for.

Sculpting the Face

The perfect face shape is considered to be oval, and your goal in sculpting your face is to make it appear more oval-shaped. And guess what, all you need is foundation and powder to sculpt your face to give you that exotic and youthful look.

The basic "sculpting" method involves highlighting and contouring your face.

Before you start, you will need to select three shades of foundation or powder in three different depth levels.

1. The first shade should match your skin exactly. It is your true foundation color.

2. The second color, your highlight color, should be one level lighter than the first, preferably with the same undertone.

3. The third shade, your contour color, should be one level darker than your first, preferably with the same undertone.

If you want your final result to be more dramatic, use three shades with more contrast between the depth levels. Keep in mind, however, that the more dramatic your choices, the more thoroughly and carefully you will need to blend the shades together.

Powder, Blush and Highlighter

Once you've applied your three foundation shades, powder it with a shade that matches your natural skin tone. The powder will set everything beautifully. If you want your results to be even more dramatic, you can finish with three shades of powder: one that matches your true foundation shade, one that matches your highlight shade, and a darker or bronzing powder to match your contour shade. And your final touch would be the brush of the perfect shade of blush on the apples of your cheeks, for that youthful glow.
