Wear the trend: Sport Luxe
Think back to your childhood and hit pause on summer. Chances are, there’ll be an image there which involved sport, either actively - on the field at practice, in the pool or passively – watching cute athletes from the sidelines and wearing hoodies that subsequently gave way to outfits considered more fashion forward. This year however, designers have given us free license to indulge our inner jocks. You don’t actually have to play a sport, but what you do need to do is incorporate some of the season’s all pervasive spirit of sport into your wardrobe.
Choose to go as subtle or bold as you like. For the enthusiast, inspiration comes from New York where designer Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra and Rag and Bone showed their luxe versions of track bottoms, anoraks, bomber jackets and comfortably chic sweaters. Stella Mccartney, who is in charge of all the kits for the Olympic Games this year (expect 2012 to be sport’s chicest year ever!), showed dresses in sporty mesh paired with florals for a prettier version of the trend and Isabel Marant’s pop coloured high tops are fashion’s new favourite shoe
For those less likely to drop their LBD’s in favour of mesh, designer Savio Jon’s spring/summer collection is the most stylish middle ground. Elegant, monochromatic and clean with just enough sports luxe detail to keep you on trend, the silk dressess and knit layers will see you through an evening out safely. Morphe by Amit Aggarwal’s clever use of mesh and zippers is so sleek that just one piece will see you through the trend, with style to spare.
