HOW TO WEAR... PREPPY
LOOK ONE: WORKDAY
Take cues from your dad's classic wardrobe - the striped ties, corduroys and penny loafers. But go neater and, natch, slimmer.
Contrast-collar shirts make for an interesting change in your workday wardrobe. Dress it up with a brightly coloured striped tie.
A slim-fit, slim-lapel, two button jacket with houndstooth checks is vintage preppy. The navy blazer is a staple; you can try seersucker, Madras plaid, tweed or corduroy as options.
Corduroy doesn't have to be dowdy. Not when you find the right fit and pair it with the right jacket.
If you're feeling British, two-toned brogues work; or, opt for the more American penny loafers without socks.
LOOK TWO: WEEKEND
Who says being preppy is tedious or over organized? Reinvent traditional preppy elements to look slick even on vacation.
A checked shirt in cotton, wool or cashmere is great for when you're stepping out (presumably for a game of tennis).
Khaki is the preppy equivalent of jeans - you can't go wrong.
A big monogrammed tote should see you through any weekend trip you've got planned - and carry all your stuff.
Preppy guys wear loafers in suede and leather, boat shoes (top-siders) or leather flip-flops. Invest in a pair of lazy loafers to complete your summer look.
STYLE TIP: Nailing the outfit is key, but don't forget the details. Lose the ironic moustache - the preppy sort are always well groomed, clean cut and fresh scented.
