Red Carpet Trend Spot: Asymmetry is in Vogue

By Pritha Bhattacharya Jun 9, 2013 9:49PM

Asymmetric drapes are taking the fancy of our fashion-forward celebs across the world. The new silhouette is quite the head-turner and is also a key trend for Spring and Pre-Fall 2013 collections of important design houses including Elie Saab, Alberta Ferretti, Chanel and Christian Dior.

Last week alone we had quite a few celeb-spottings in this hip trend. Our very own fashionista Deepika Padukone arrived at the premiere of her new blockbuster 'Ye Jawani Hai Deewani' wearing an ethereal high neck cream asymmetric kurta with delicate white embroidery from Pankaj and Nidhi paired with churidaars and a white DvF clutch.
Taylor Swift made an appearance on the CMT Music Awards red carpet in a nude beaded Elie Saab Spring 2013 rise and fall hemline dress with Jimmy Choo booties. Though the look could have used some colour, she looked good.
Earlier this month, Rachel Bilson was on trend, wearing a delicate, floral and summery Chanel strapless tiered dress paired with metallic strappy sandals.

At the 2013 Met Gala we had a few sightings of the asymmetric silhouette trend.
Jessica Biel looked sensational in a Giambatista Valli Spring 2013 Couture strapless dress with a fitted bodice and voluminous high-low skirt which was paired with webbed tights.
Kate Beckinsale rocked two big trends of the night, in a bright pink draped dress with a rise-fall hemline from Alberta Ferretti, paired with black strappy sandals, striking earrings and an Edie Parker box clutch.
Michelle Williams flaunted her usual minimalistic style in a black Saint Laurent gown and Olympia Le-Tan book clutch.

You can experiment with this trend too. Recreate Deepika’s look by pairing an asymmetric kurta with churidaars or pair a high-low hem skirt with a fitted top. Since the look has its share of quirk, you should keep your accessories and make-up simple. Most high-street brands have stocked up on asymmetric skirts, so go right ahead and rock this trend!
