Style Spot: Peplum Sophistication

By Pritha Bhattacharya Jul 9, 2012 3:18PM
Peplum has been the hot red carpet dressing trend this year with the likes of Catherine Duchess of Cambridge endorsing it in multiple appearances. Pippa Middleton wore a Project D Peplum accentuated dress to the Wimbledon finals yesterday.  A bevy of international designers from Jason Wu to Valentino showcased this trend for their Spring Summer 2012 collections. The trend is here to stay even as we get into fall.

For the uninitiated, Peplum is essentially a flirty overskirt attached to a fitted dress, skirt, jacket or top. It adds an interesting feminine flare to a fitted silhouette.

If you want to jump on the trend, you can experiment with a sheath dress with a peplum waist or a colorful pencil skirt. The skirt can double up as work wear paired with a white shirt or wear it with a shimmery top for a cocktail party. You can also invest in a jacket or top with a peplum flare. Wear it with a pair of jeans in the day or fitted trousers or skirt for an evening out.

The silhouette is very flattering for most body types as it cinches the waist and hides the hips.
