IIFA 2012 Trend Alert! Of Princess Gowns, Haute Saris and Looks with an Edge

By Pritha Bhattacharya Jul 5, 2012 9:08PM

Continuing with my IIFA Fashion trend-spotting post from yesterday, here are the rest of the trends that we saw emerge from the green carpet last month.

Princess Gowns get an outing:
Floaty and feminine gowns are back in favour with our celebrities.
Priyanka Chopra donned a dreamy Dolce & Gabbana lace strapless gown with floral appliques. She wore her hair in a loose updo which went perfectly with what she was wearing.
Aditi Rao Hydari wore a Gauri & Nainika black gown with a voluminous skirt.

One colour Saris:
No Indian Film award gala is complete without a few great Sari looks. This year the monotone sari with a dressy blouse stood out as a trend.
For the IIFA Rocks event, Nargis Fakhri looked beautiful in an electric blue Anaikka sari draped over a studded gunmetal high neck blouse. A ponytail and fresh faced makeup completed her look.
Sridevi shone bright in a yellow Manish Malhotra Sari with a strapless blouse. The colours stood out and the styling was nice in both cases.

Fierce and Confident:
We also had a share of great looks that added drama to the big ticket event. Celebrities who tried something different and looked great while doing it.
Chitrangada Singh smouldered in a Raakesh Agarvwal gown with a severe gold bodice and satin rust layered skirt with a train. Beauty wise she styled the look with an updo and smoky eyes.
Sameera Reddy seems to have mastered the gothic look off late. She looked amazing in her one-shouldered Alpana & Neeraj dark grey/black gown. In her case, the hair & makeup added the edge.
