Q. How can I get glowing, flawless skin ?
While a highlighter is great for a superficial glow, truly flawless skin requires a little more effort. Below are a few tips to help you get there.
a. Be healthy.
"Everything you have ever heard on this topic is true; there are no deep hidden secrets. Drink lots of water, eat healthy and exercise," says Jafri.
b. Have a smart skin care regimen, not necessarily an expensive one or a complicated one, but a smart one.
c. Get the opinion of a professional
"I have found that in hotter climates many women believe their skin is super oily and don’t use products that hydrate enough, leaving a blanket of dehydration on the face," says Jaffri.
d. Educate yourself, understand the needs of your skin, and use appropriate products.
Q. How can I get smokey eyes?
The covetedsmokey eye continues to baffle many of us. Jafri gives us quick tips on mastering this look.
a. Use a creamy black eyeliner and smudge it into the lash line with a synthetic brush. Continue smudging the liner up into the crease, and blend away with fingers. Apply eyeliner in the inner rim of the eye intensely.
b. Take your choice of medium/dark eye shadow blend softly onto the lid and crease of the eye, with a medium sized blending brush. Take eye-shadow on a smaller detailing brush and smoke it along bottom lashes.
"Your tools, make this look. The better your tools are, the better the final look will be." advices Jafri.
Tips for picking colours:
a. For day time try using a medium shade matte eye shadow with your creamy black eye-liner. "A matte smoky eye is ultra-sophisticated." notes Jafri.
b. For evening, try using a pink/gold shimmer shadow with your black eyeliner. "Pink or gold shadows look really healthy on the skin and can take away the possibility of a smoky eye being too heavy and dull looking." says Jafri.
What are a few goodlipstickshades for Indian skin tones ?
"A vast majority of the Indian population have cooler undertones." says Jaffri, who advices using brown-pink shades for day wear and trying vibrant cool pinks, violets and berries for more dressier occasions. "Nude shades and peachy tones also are great, and look fantastic when coupled with a smoky eye. Avoid anything that is too brown because it doesn’t compliment an already very brown palette." advices Jafri.
How can I style my curly hair ?
"The key to managing curly hair is infusing the right products while it is damp." says Jafri. Leave in conditioners work wonders to keep the luster, while anti-frizz serums help keep the integrity of the curl. Also, have your stylist cut your hair in layers that will compliment your curls and you.
What are a few tips for applying makeup on dusky skin tones?
"Wear appropriate foundation and concealers. There is nothing more sad than too see an Indian girl wear a foundation that’s too light for her." notes Jafri. Here are a few tips to create flawless skin and add illumination.
a. After priming your skin, choose a perfectly matching foundation. Go for one one which brightens your skin and cuts out any dullness. A foundation with orange undertones helps accomplish this. A foundation that is lighter than you skin tone, will look grey when applied and make your skin look unhealthy.
b. Concealwell in dull areas (under-eyes, around the mouth, on the sides of the nose) with an orange based concealer and set with powder. Orange helps cut the grey tone in skin.
c. Set entire face with an illuminating powder. A yellow-gold based powder with light reflecting particles, compliments dusky skin well. "It is important to find a powder that is not very shimmery so you can wear it at day and night." says Jafri.

Blotting papers are a must for oily and combination skin tones. With a little help from our expert tips, you will reach for them less often.
a. Make it last: Use an Oil-free primer to make sure makeup doesn’t break down during the day and is long-lasting
b. Even the skin: Use a long-wear, oil-free liquid foundation. Avoid press foundation powder as primary foundation and use it just for touch-ups throughout the day.
c. Cover with very little: Use high coverage concealers so you use very little and maintain a look that is natural.
d. Set it well: Use a translucent powder with a powder puff and set the makeup well so it lasts all day.
e. Take it with you: Carry a pressed powder for touch-ups. Do a makeup check every few hours.
f. Don’t under hydrate: "Women with oily skins tend to think they need oil-free products." notes Jafri who goes on to give us a very convincing explanation."If your entire skincare regimen is oil-free and too light on hydrating elements the skin will start to produce more oil if it feels too dehydrated on the inside." says Jafri.
